Best Rooftops in Marrakech 2026: Ranked by a Local
Best Rooftops in Marrakech 2026: Ranked by a Local
I've spent years on the rooftops of this city. At sunset, at midnight, in the heat of July and in the cool January wind. Marrakech has some of the best elevated drinking and dining in Africa — but not all rooftops are equal. Some are tourist traps. Some are genuinely great. Here is the honest ranking.
What makes a great rooftop in Marrakech?
Three things: the view has to be real (medina, Atlas, or city skyline — not a car park), the drinks need to be worth the price premium, and the vibe has to match what you came for. With that framework, here are the spots I'd send a friend to in 2026.
Sky Bar
Sky Bar sits at the top of a Hivernage hotel and delivers one of the cleanest 360-degree views of the city. I've watched the Atlas mountains turn orange from up there on clear winter evenings — genuinely unforgettable. Cocktails run 100-140 MAD, which is fair for the setting. Best visited after 8 PM when the city lights up below you.
Kabana Rooftop
Kabana Rooftop is the most Instagrammed rooftop in Marrakech right now and for once the hype is justified. The view over Jemaa el-Fna is extraordinary — you're watching one of the world's great public spaces from above while eating decent mezze. My tip: book the corner table on the left side as you exit the elevator. That's the shot. Table minimum applies on weekends.
Le Salama
Le Salama is an institution. Multiple levels, a proper restaurant on the lower floors, and a rooftop bar that fills up every Friday night with a mixed local-expat crowd. The sound system is better than most rooftops in town, which matters when you're staying past midnight. I've spent more hours here than I can count — it earns its reputation.
Café Arabe
Café Arabe in the medina is the rooftop for people who want the real thing: terracotta rooftops stretching in every direction, the call to prayer echoing across the Mouassine neighborhood, mint tea and wine sharing the same table. It's calmer than the big Hivernage spots, which is exactly why I recommend it to people on their first evening in Marrakech. Let the city breathe over you before the nightlife starts.
El Fenn
El Fenn is not a bar — it's a boutique hotel that opens its rooftop pool and terrace to non-guests. The medina views from here are some of the best in the city. Drinks are priced accordingly (140-180 MAD for cocktails) but you're paying for one of the most beautiful outdoor spaces in Marrakech. The service is actually attentive, which cannot be said of every boutique hotel rooftop.
Nomad
Nomad is where creative Marrakech hangs out. The rooftop runs across two levels in the Rahba Kedima area with views over the spice market below. The food is modern Moroccan done properly and the natural wine list is the best of any rooftop in town. I send every food-obsessed visitor here first. Reservations strongly recommended for the rooftop from Thursday through Sunday.
Akira Back The Rooftop
Akira Back The Rooftop at the W Marrakech brings a different energy — luxury hotel rooftop, Japanese-Korean fusion food, a crowd that dresses up. The cocktails use Japanese spirits in ways you won't find elsewhere in the city. It's the rooftop for a special occasion or a Thursday night when you want the high-end experience without the Friday crowd.
Practical questions about rooftops in Marrakech
How much does a cocktail cost on a rooftop in Marrakech? Budget 80-100 MAD at mid-range spots (Café Arabe, Nomad), 120-180 MAD at luxury hotel rooftops (El Fenn, Akira Back). Some have table minimums — ask when booking.
When is the best time to visit a rooftop in Marrakech? Sunset (roughly 7-8 PM in summer, 5:30-6:30 PM in winter) is peak hour for views. If you want a table, arrive 30 minutes before sunset. For nightlife energy, after 10 PM.
Do I need to book a rooftop in Marrakech? For weekends April through October, yes — especially Kabana, Le Salama, and El Fenn. Weekday evenings are usually walk-in friendly.
For VIP table reservations at any of these rooftops, reach out via WhatsApp. I know the managers.
