Marrakech in April: Weather, Events & What to Do
April is when Marrakech is at its absolute best. The brutal summer heat is still two months away, the winter rains are gone, and the light has that particular quality — golden and clear — that makes every wall and garden look extraordinary. I've been here through every month of the year and April is the one I'd recommend unreservedly to first-time visitors. Here's exactly what to expect.
What is the weather like in Marrakech in April?
Daytime temperatures range from 25-30°C, occasionally hitting 32°C in the last week of April as things start to warm up. Evenings cool to 14-18°C, which means a light jacket or layer for after dark. Rainfall is minimal — typically 2-3 rain days in the whole month, quick showers that clear within an hour.
What to pack: light clothing (cotton/linen) for days, one warm layer for evenings. Sunscreen is essential — the Marrakech sun is deceptively strong even in April. A light scarf is useful for entering mosques and medina areas where covering shoulders is appropriate. Comfortable walking shoes; you'll be on your feet more than you expect.
The Atlas Mountains are snow-capped in April and visible from the city on clear mornings — one of the most striking visual combinations in North Africa. This is also the peak of the rose harvest in the Dades Valley, 5 hours from Marrakech, if you're considering extending your trip.
What events happen in Marrakech in April?
GITEX Africa 2026 — Marrakech hosts the largest tech event in Africa annually, drawing 30,000+ visitors, 1,000+ exhibitors, and major international tech companies. If you're in tech, this is the most concentrated networking event in the continent. The venue is Marrakech Convention Centre in Agdal. Tickets from 500 MAD for single days, 1,500+ MAD for full conference access. Side parties and satellite events run across Gueliz and Hivernage throughout the week — the evening tech community gatherings at the major hotels are often more valuable than the official programming.
Marrakech Carnival/Origins Festival — Usually held in mid-April, this celebrates Gnawa and traditional Moroccan music with free concerts on Jemaa el-Fna and around the Medina. One of the few events that brings genuine local cultural programming rather than tourist-facing performance.
Sonara Camp Season Opening — The iconic desert camp in the Agafay opens its summer season in April. The opening events typically feature international DJs and are the most anticipated nights of the Marrakech season. Check Sonara Camp listings for specific dates — tickets sell out within days of announcement.
What are the best activities in Marrakech in April?
Jardins Majorelle and Musée YSL — The gardens are at their absolute peak in April. The irises, roses, and palm trees are all in bloom. Go at 8 AM (when the garden opens) to experience it before the crowds. Entry: 150 MAD, add 150 MAD for the Berber Museum inside. The Musée YSL adjacent is another 150 MAD and is genuinely one of the best museum experiences in North Africa.
Day trip to Ourika Valley — 45 minutes from Marrakech, the Ourika Valley in April has the Atlas streams at their fullest from snowmelt and the terraces are planted with spring vegetables. Hire a car (350-500 MAD for the day) or join an organized tour (400-600 MAD per person). The Setti Fatma waterfalls at the valley's end are a 45-minute walk up — worth every minute.
Agafay Desert sunset dinner — The 40 km of rocky desert plateau southwest of Marrakech is extraordinary in April. Sunset temperatures are perfect (22-25°C), the light is exceptional, and it's not yet the summer crowds. Several camps do sunset camel rides (500-700 MAD) followed by a traditional dinner (600-1,200 MAD per person). Details on the Agafay experiences page.
Golf — April is peak golf season. The four major courses — Amelkis, Palmeraie Golf Palace, Samanah Country Club, and Royal Golf de Marrakech — are all in optimal condition. Rates for non-residents: 700-1,400 MAD per round depending on the course and time of day. See the golf guide for full details.
What should I know about visiting Marrakech in April?
April is high season — expect hotels to be 80-90% occupied and prices to be 20-40% higher than January-February. Book accommodation minimum 3-4 weeks in advance for anything in the mid-to-luxury range. Jemaa el-Fna is dramatically more crowded than shoulder season; the best time to experience it is early morning (7-9 AM) or late night (after 10 PM).
Ramadan occasionally falls in April — in 2026 it runs March through late April. During Ramadan, most restaurants in the Medina close until sunset, some non-tourist cafés are closed during the day, and the city has a distinctly different energy — quieter in the afternoon, then explosive after the evening Iftar meal. If your visit overlaps with Ramadan, the sunset Iftar experience at Jemaa el-Fna is one of the most extraordinary things you can witness in Marrakech.
