Founded 1927 — the oldest course in Morocco, where Churchill played
Founded in 1927 during the French Protectorate, Royal Golf Marrakech is the oldest golf course in Morocco and one of the most storied in all of Africa. Winston Churchill was a regular guest here during his winter stays in Marrakech, and the club has welcomed royalty, heads of state, and champions since its opening. The course plays 27 holes arranged in three flexible 9-hole loops across mature eucalyptus and palm fairways, with the snow-capped High Atlas as a constant backdrop. The par-3 15th over water is the signature hole — a 170-meter carry over a reflecting pond with pink flamingos that occasionally wander onto the fairway. Green fees run approximately 550-750 MAD for 18 holes, making it the best value for history and atmosphere in Marrakech. Difficulty is moderate — wide fairways but treacherous kikuyu rough and quick greens. The colonial-era clubhouse serves a proper tagine lunch and cold Casas. Course condition can vary by season but the character of the place is irreplaceable.

“Play at sunrise — Atlas light is unreal. Clubhouse does a solid tagine. Best value for a historic course.”
